Des Kavanagh received a two-year sentence, fully suspended, for possession and distribution of child pornography at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 31 March 2017. The offences involved images recovered from laptops after Gardaí received information from Interpol and obtained search warrants linked to Kavanagh. The court heard that 240 images and two short movie clips were found, all within the two lowest categories of illegal material. Kavanagh had pleaded guilty to the offences and had no previous convictions. The judge imposed the sentence on condition that he remain of good behaviour, noting his admissions, the circumstances of the offending and the assessment that he was unlikely to reoffend.
