Dermot McManus pleads guilty to money laundering

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Dermot McManus faced three money laundering charges before the Special Criminal Court. He pleaded guilty last July.

The proceedings were reported on 4 December 2023. Judge Paul Burns, sitting with Judge Sarah Berkeley and Judge Marie Keane, remanded McManus on continuing bail until 22 January 2024 for sentencing. The prosecution argued the cash was the proceeds of organised crime; McManus said €9,550 came from market work and €10,000 from selling a van, while his senior counsel said he was blind in one eye and had Crohn’s disease.
