This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Derek Lennon was jailed for four and a half years for assault causing harm, threats and witness intimidation at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 11 November 2019. The offences followed a road traffic case in Dublin in which Lennon attacked and threatened a State witness.

The court heard Lennon intimidated the witness before attacking him with a plank of wood and punching him several times. The witness later required treatment for facial injuries and dental work.

Judge Martin Nolan said the threats were believable and that Lennon had blamed the victim for his own predicament. The sentence was backdated to Lennon’s first remand in custody.

Lennon had 72 previous convictions, while his counsel said he was remorseful and had apologised to the victim.
