Derek Hutch received a four-year sentence, suspended on conditions, for robbery and possession of an imitation firearm at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 10 November 2017. He pleaded guilty to both offences. The robbery took place at a Spar shop on Styles Road, Clontarf, on 11 June 2015. The proceedings were reported on 10 November 2017.

At a sentencing hearing in December 2016, Judge Patricia Ryan placed Hutch under probation supervision for nearly a year to assess whether he had truly reformed. At sentencing on 10 November 2017, she said he had made “trojan efforts” in rehabilitating himself and had remained drug-free. She also noted a “most favourable” probation report and positive reports from his drug treatment centre.
