Denis Leahy was jailed for 14 years for attempted murder at the Central Criminal Court on 21 July 2016. He attacked Rose Kenny at School Street Flats in Dublin 8 on 23 September 2014, causing multiple stab wounds to her neck and chest. The sentence was backdated to the date of the attack.

Mr Justice Paul Butler said the attack was premeditated and planned for at least a day, with the ferociousness of the attack and Kenny’s injuries aggravating factors. Leahy’s lack of relevant previous convictions was accepted in mitigation.
