David Marsh was remanded on continuing bail until 20 June for sentencing by Judge John Aylmer, who wanted more time to examine a lengthy forensic psychologist’s report.

Marsh pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to a charge of dishonestly inducing a €76,000 payment into his AIB account for a site at Fox Hollow, Golf Links Road, Castletroy. The offence occurred on 6 December 2013. He also admitted 12 charges of dishonestly obtaining cash for items he knew he could not supply. Those offences occurred between April and July 2014. The proceedings were reported on 13 June 2016.

A Limerick couple paid the €76,000 expecting Marsh’s financial adviser to arrange a property purchase. After requested paperwork failed to appear, the man confronted Marsh, who acknowledged using the money for an Audi, a rugby tour and a New York holiday.

Friends and colleagues paid €7,785 for purported tickets to a Conor McGregor UFC event in July 2014. One friend’s payments included a €1,125 flat deposit, although Marsh had arranged no tenancy, and €200 for two UFC tickets. Others paid for supposed name changes on tickets for a Barbados trip Marsh claimed to have won.

Marsh had no previous convictions. In an apology letter read to the court, he accepted responsibility and promised to try to put matters right. The report also recorded that he made immediate admissions following his arrest in Limerick.

Defending barrister Leo Mulrooney BL said no compensation money was available in court. Marsh hoped to sell the Audi to repay victims, and just over €7,000 remained frozen across a bank account and a credit union. Counsel said Marsh’s new sales job in a phone shop might enable him to save a further €10,000 annually for those he had defrauded.
