David Hunter was jailed for life by the non-jury Special Criminal Court for murdering Michael Barr, the manager of the Sunset House pub in Dublin’s north inner city. Hunter had denied the murder. The proceedings were reported on 2 November 2020.
Mr Barr was killed at the pub on the night of 25 April 2016. The court found compelling evidence that Hunter was one of two gunmen who entered the pub and shot him.
Mr Justice Alexander Owens, sitting with Judge Gerard Griffin and Judge David McHugh, backdated the life sentence to April 2019, when Hunter was first arrested on a European Arrest Warrant.
