David Gallagher was sentenced to eight years in prison, with two years suspended, for possession of explosives. The sentence was imposed at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin.

Gallagher had pleaded guilty to possession of an explosive substance. The proceedings were reported on 14 October 2015. The offence occurred at Kilcurry, Co Louth, on 25 May 2014.

The charge listed PETN and RDX, an adapted 50-litre beer keg, 50kg of ammonium nitrate homemade explosive, an improvised detonation cord, an improvised steel booster tube and an improvised time and power unit.

An earlier report, published on 28 May 2014, said Gallagher also faced a charge of membership of an unlawful organisation, named as Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the Irish Republican Army or IRA. It reported that he was remanded in custody to appear again before the Special Criminal Court on 4 June 2014.

The October 2015 report also said Gareth Mulley had been tried and convicted of the same explosives offence. He was sentenced to ten years in prison at the Special Criminal Court in July 2015.
