David Dwyer was jailed for 18 months at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after pleading guilty to assault causing her harm and failing to comply with directions given by Insp Woods. The proceedings were reported on 15 June 2021. The assault took place at Edenmore, Raheny, on 2 May 2020, and happened in front of the woman’s two children. Judge Melanie Greally backdated the prison sentence to 4 May. She acknowledged the couple’s volatile relationship and that Dwyer was drunk, but said this did not excuse the assault. Defence counsel said Dwyer had very little recollection of the night and that it occurred during lockdown, when life was not normal.
