Darren Doody lost false imprisonment remission challenge

By Donal Gilhooly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Darren Doody's High Court challenge to a refusal of enhanced remission after his false imprisonment conviction was dismissed in a judgment dated 4 March 2015.

The court recorded that Doody sought one-third remission after receiving the usual one-quarter allowance for good behaviour. He argued the refusal was unfair and that information relied on by the Minister had not been disclosed.

Mr Justice Noonan found the refusal complied with the Prison Rules. The reasons included the offence's gravity, Doody's previous convictions, the likelihood of reoffending and a potential public-safety threat.
