By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Darragh Lyons was jailed for four and a half years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 23 March 2023. He pleaded guilty to assault causing serious harm and violent disorder. The attack took place on Ballyfermot Road on 30 December 2021.

Judge Martin Nolan set a starting point of eight to nine years before reducing the sentence for mitigating factors, including Lyons’ early plea, cooperation, lack of previous convictions and young age. Lyons also admitted assault causing harm to Alanna Quinn Idris’ friend Louis O’Sullivan during the same attack.

Quinn Idris was struck in the face with an electric scooter saddle wielded by another attacker, leaving her permanently blind in her right eye. Lyons punched her and took part in attacking O’Sullivan. Judge Nolan said Lyons bore moral and criminal responsibility by common design, but did not think he wanted Quinn Idris to sustain her very serious injuries.
