Daniel McDonnell’s fresh High Court action over his murder detention was adjourned for two weeks, reported on 26 February 2015. The murder took place in Tallaght in February 2012, when Melanie McCarthy McNamara was shot in a car.

McDonnell’s lawyers sought an injunction over his continued solitary confinement, arguing that prison authorities had failed to act after an earlier judgment found the regime breached his constitutional rights. The governor opposed the application, saying McDonnell faced a serious threat in the general prison population. The judge asked the governor to consider psychological and psychiatric assessments, association with suitable prisoners and a possible transfer.
