Daniel Kearney was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, with the final eight months suspended on conditions, for burglary at the Bleeper store in Dublin.

Judge Orla Crowe reduced a starting point of four years to reflect mitigation. She backdated the sentence to when he entered custody in July 2025. The custodial part of the sentence is two years.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that seven e-bikes worth €20,044 were stolen between 3am and 6.15am on 19 July 2025. Kearney, aged 37 and of no fixed abode, admitted burglary and had taken two bikes worth €7,300. The one bicycle later recovered was not among those he stole.

During the break-in, the shop's shutters were damaged and a rock was used to break its glass door. Bleeper owner Hugh Cooney said the burglary had affected him both professionally and personally.

Kearney had 13 previous convictions, including assault, criminal damage and public order offences. Defence barrister Oisín Clarke said he had a letter of apology but his circumstances prevented him from making a financial contribution.

The court heard that he had a history of addiction, was now drug-free and had worked in a kitchen. Counsel said he was interested in becoming a chef and hoped to obtain a job offer following his release. The court was also told that he did not remember the burglary.
