Daniel Garland was jailed for 21 months at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 28 October 2015, after pleading guilty to two shop robberies. The robberies took place at Spar shops on Drumcondra Road Lower and Portland Street North, Dublin, on 18 and 22 October 2014. Garland threatened staff with a knife and took €170 in one robbery and €460 in the other. Judge Martin Nolan said Garland had cooperated with the Garda investigation and had taken positive steps to address his addiction, but refused an application to adjourn the case for further rehabilitation.
The court was told Garland had six previous convictions, including for theft, drug offences and criminal damage. His defence said he had reduced his methadone intake and hoped to enter residential treatment.
