Supt Daniel Flavin denied being part of a conspiracy to pervert the course of justice during the Jobstown trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 1 July 2017.

The allegation was made by Seán Guerin, counsel for Paul Murphy. The trial concerned the alleged false imprisonment of Joan Burton and her then adviser Karen O’Connell after they attended a ceremony in Jobstown.

Defence counsel criticised conflicts between Garda testimony and video evidence. Flavin also denied trying to get a charge preferred against Paul Murphy by the DPP.

Judge Melanie Greally rejected defence arguments that there was insufficient evidence to put the charges to the jury. The jury found all the accused not guilty, with unanimous verdicts.
