Courtney Fitzpatrick and Leah York each received a suspended one-year sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for their part in a Revolut scam in which a doctor lost €11,000.

Both women pleaded guilty to money laundering by possessing the proceeds of crime. The offence was committed on 3 September 2023. The proceedings were reported on 31 March 2025.

Detective Garda John Sheedy told the court that the doctor received a call from someone purporting to be a Revolut agent. The caller said her account had been compromised and requested access to her app. The doctor was told her account and card had been frozen.

Transactions followed, with €5,500 transferred to each woman's account before the money was moved to a cryptocurrency account. The women were identified and interviewed by gardaí.

Neither woman wished to name the man using their account numbers. Garda Sheedy accepted that this was due to fear and said both had co-operated with the investigation. Fitzpatrick's counsel said she had not had an easy life and would present as vulnerable and naive.

The judge said the women knew what was happening was criminal, but also said that, to some degree, they were used. He suspended each sentence on condition that each woman offers €1,500 to the injured party within nine months.
