Corey Mulhall on trial over alleged IRA membership

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Corey Mulhall was facing trial for IRA membership in the non-jury court, with proceedings continuing before Mr Justice Paul Butler.

He pleaded not guilty to membership of the IRA on September 26th, 2012. The proceedings were reported on 18 January 2014.

The report said Mr Mulhall admitted taking photographs of the Harcourt Square complex after renting a room at the Harcourt Hotel. His barrister said he had gone there with a man who offered money on behalf of another man in dispute with gardaí, to photograph a garda who drove a specified vehicle.

The prosecution said the hotel activity corroborated other evidence, including a chief superintendent’s opinion that Mr Mulhall was an IRA member. The court allowed the trial to proceed despite a defence complaint about a previously undisclosed document offering an alternative explanation for his arrest.
