Conor Murphy was sentenced to seven and a half years in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 18 January 2024 for assault causing serious harm, with the final 18 months suspended.

The offence took place in Clondalkin on 20 August 2021. Murphy also admitted burglary and producing a knife on the same occasion.

Judge Orla Crowe set a ten-year headline sentence and cited the unprovoked attack and Hoey’s serious injuries, including an orbital fracture that required bone taken from her hip to repair damage to her cheekbone.

The judge also considered Murphy’s guilty plea, apology, age and remorse, alongside letters from the prison governor and his sister. He was placed under Probation Service supervision for one year after release, and the sentence was backdated to when he entered custody in this case.
