Conor Metcalfe was found guilty by the non-jury Special Criminal Court of membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hÉireann, otherwise the IRA, on 24 November 2015. The proceedings were reported on 19 December 2018.
The three-judge court entered a not guilty plea on Metcalfe's behalf after he made no reply when the charge was put to him at the start of his trial.
Presiding judge Mr Justice Tony Hunt said the combined weight of the evidence was sufficient to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt. He sat with Judge Sinéad Ní Chúlacháin and Judge Cormac Dunne. Metcalfe was remanded in custody to 25 January 2019, when he was due to be sentenced.
