This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Conor Dreelan was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court to concurrent six-year terms for causing serious harm to his mother, Phyllis Dreelan, and stepfather, David Dignam. The final two years were suspended on condition that he be of good behaviour and remain under probation supervision for those two years.

Dreelan pleaded guilty to two counts of intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm. The attempted murder charges against him were dropped. The offences occurred at Snowdrop Walk, Darndale, on 13 June 2020.

Mr Justice Michael White said Dreelan was entitled to a lesser sentence because of his temporary psychotic condition, which had been described in psychiatric reports submitted to the court. The judge said the condition was consistent with cocaine-induced psychosis. The proceedings were reported on 3 September 2021.
