Conor Clarke was jailed for four and a half years, with the final 12 months suspended, for assault and vehicle seizure at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 13 December 2021.
He had pleaded guilty to assault, unlawful seizure of a vehicle, attempted seizure of a vehicle and making threats to kill or cause serious harm at Hazelhatch Road, Newcastle, on 15 February 2019.
Judge Elma Sheahan identified previous similar convictions and a probation report’s high risk of reoffending assessment as aggravating factors. She cited Clarke’s early guilty plea, difficult upbringing and recent relationship breakdown in mitigation.
The suspended portion was conditional on measures including anger management classes, drug and alcohol treatment plans, random urine analysis and 12 months of Probation Service supervision after release.
