Community service considered for Christopher Timmons after assault
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Christopher Timmons pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm to a taxi driver at Morehampton Road, Donnybrook, on 24 July 2016. The proceedings were reported on 2 February 2018.
At a sentence hearing on 2 February 2018, Judge Karen O’Connor ordered a report on whether Timmons was suitable for community service. She said that, pending the report’s outcome, she would sentence him to 200 hours of community service in lieu of 18 months in prison.
The court heard there had been confusion over the fare for another person already in the taxi. The report said Timmons grabbed the driver from behind, punched him in the face and tried to gouge his eye with his fingers.
Timmons brought €3,950 to court to cover the driver’s financial losses. Judge O’Connor said Timmons had behaved violently and aggressively but considered community service more useful than custody. The matter was due to return for finalisation on 13 April 2018.
This case may have concluded differently. The outcome has not yet been confirmed by a public source we could find.
