Colin Hammond pleads guilty to hoax bomb report

By Ruairí Dolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Colin Hammond pleaded guilty to making a false report giving rise to apprehension for the safety of persons or property at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 31 July 2015. The offence involved hoax bomb calls claiming explosives were planted at Intel in Leixlip.

The calls closed the M4 motorway, disrupted air traffic control and prevented thousands of Intel staff from attending work. Hammond was paid €30 by a friend to make the calls and had no previous convictions. Judge Martin Nolan adjourned sentencing to October and said he intended to impose 200 hours of community service instead of two years in prison if Hammond was deemed suitable.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
