Co Galway residents get permission to challenge waste facility permit

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Co Galway residents secured High Court permission to challenge Galway County Council’s waste facility permit decision. The proceedings were reported on 2 July 2018. The proposed facility is at Pollboy, Ballinasloe, close to their homes and near the River Suck Callows protected site.

The residents claim the council failed to carry out an Appropriate Assessment before granting a permit for a facility where they say waste disposal, recycling and storage would take place. Mr Justice Seamus Noonan granted permission to bring proceedings on an ex parte basis. The residents seek to have the council’s decision quashed, with the case due back before the court in October.
