Certain members of Clonkeen College’s board of management settled their High Court action over the proposed sale of school playing grounds. The proceedings were reported on 22 June 2018. The Deansgrange school’s board members had challenged the Christian Brothers’ planned €18 million sale of seven acres, saying the arrangement could affect the school’s playing facilities.
The case returned before Ms Justice Carmel Stewart, when James Dwyer SC for the board members said it had been resolved and could be struck out. Peter Bland SC for the congregation said the strikeout was on consent.
A statement issued after the settlement said the agreement would see the Christian Brothers donate almost four acres to the Edmund Rice Schools Trust, and that development of adjoining lands could proceed.
