Chunling Chen received a fully suspended two-year sentence for providing false or misleading passport documents at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 23 July 2020. The offence involved a passport application at the Passport Office in Stephenstown, Balbriggan, on 29 October 2015.
Chen, who pleaded guilty, also admitted possessing a false Irish nationalisation certificate found at her address in 2018. She had paid €22,000 for the documentation, after being assured the process was legitimate; Judge Pauline Codd said she found it difficult to accept that Chen did not know it was illegal, but accepted the passport had not been sought for criminal purposes.
