Christopher McNamara is on trial for the murder of James Boyce at the Central Criminal Court. He has pleaded not guilty. The proceedings were reported on 17 January 2014.

The charge concerns the period between 6 March 2011 and 7 March 2011 at St Munchins Street, St Mary's Park, Limerick. A statement read to the jury said Christopher McNamara told his mother he had choked James Boyce with a sweeping-brush handle, but also said: “I did mam but I didn't do that to the man.”

State Pathologist Marie Cassidy said her post-mortem examination found injuries that could have been caused by a brush. The trial continues before Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan and a jury of seven men and five women.
