Christine Carr gave evidence at Dublin District Coroner’s Court on 25 October 2023 in the inquest into the Stardust fire, which killed 48 people.

Carr described flames spreading across the ceiling after a partition went up, with colours she called mesmerising. She recalled a crush at the main entrance, where the doors were closed.

Raymond English also gave evidence, saying he opened an emergency exit and did not recall seeing chains or locks. There was uncertainty about which exit he used.

Michael O’Higgins SC, representing a number of the victims’ families, put it to English that Stardust management had accepted there were locks and chains on all the doors that night. O’Higgins said David Carroll had given evidence that he found no movement when he tried the bars at exit five and saw a chain and padlock on the door. English said that was not his recollection.
