At Dublin District Coroner’s Court on 7 November 2023, Christina Smyth described her husband Jimmy Buckley’s death in the Stardust fire and said she last saw him at their table minding coats.

The inquest concerned the deaths of 48 people in the 1981 nightclub fire. The date of the disco was also their daughter Julieann’s first birthday.

Smyth said that after escaping through an exit, she looked back into the building and found it completely red. She had gone back hoping to find her husband.
