Charleton Tribunal begins hearing alleged smear campaign claims
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
The Charleton Tribunal began hearing allegations of a smear campaign against Maurice McCabe on 14 June 2017. It is examining whether false sexual-abuse allegations were used to discredit the Garda whistleblower, and whether former commissioner Martin Callinan and commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan abused their positions of trust. Counsel said the allegations had remained on Garda systems despite later efforts to correct the record. The tribunal is also considering complaints by Garda Keith Harrison and was due to sit again on 3 July.
