Charanand Flannery was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison for reckless endangerment and cocaine possession at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 14 February 2024.

The offences arose from an M50 checkpoint at Tallaght on 26 August 2019, where Flannery drove into Garda David Currivan, causing spinal injuries. He also received a concurrent three-year sentence for possessing cocaine for sale or supply, and was disqualified from driving for a further five years.

Currivan said his injuries ended his career progression and left him on restricted desk duties. He had fractured vertebrae and nerve damage, and required ongoing treatment and surgery.
