Celyn Eadon was jailed for life for murdering his mother, with the proceedings reported on 5 February 2014. A jury found him guilty after deliberating for two hours and 22 minutes. Eadon admitted killing Noreen Kelly but denied murder, claiming drug abuse had caused a mental disorder. The report said he had taken cannabis, amphetamines and methamphetamines, but that claim was rejected by the State. Kelly was stabbed 19 times at the family home in Derrycrieve, Islandeady, Castlebar, on 9 March 2011. Eadon's younger brother heard him shouting at their mother and later found her slumped on the living-room floor. Mr Justice Paul Carney imposed the mandatory sentence of life in prison.
