By Fionn Kelly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Carl Feighery was ordered to complete 240 hours of community service for dangerous driving causing death at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 5 May 2015. He was also disqualified from driving for five years.

Feighery had pleaded guilty after knocking down Rose Douglas, aged 77, as she crossed North Road in Finglas, Dublin, on 9 January 2013. Douglas died from her injuries at the Mater Hospital later that day.

Judge Martin Nolan found no aggravating factors such as drink-driving or speeding and said imprisonment would be unfair despite the consequences for Douglas's family. The court heard that Feighery told gardaí the sun had been shining directly in his eyes before the collision.
