This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Buti Sashi was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court to 12 years in prison, with the final two years suspended. Justice Eileen Creedon made the suspension conditional on his engagement with the Probation Services after his release.

Sashi pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery, two of assault causing harm, one of sexual assault and one of production of a weapon. The proceedings were reported on 17 October 2022.

The attacks on transgender sex workers took place at city centre apartments. On 26 May 2017, Sashi hit and cut one woman, sexually assaulted her and stole her phone and laptop. She suffered fractures to her jaw and an eye socket bone.

Prosecuting counsel Dominic McGinn SC told the court that on 28 June, Sashi and another man forced their way into another woman's flat. Both beat her and took two phones. They also attacked a housemate who tried to help her, breaking his jaw and cutting him, before taking his phone, laptop and €300.

Justice Creedon said the planned nature of the attacks was an aggravating factor. Defending counsel Maurice Coffey SC said Sashi was out of control with a drug problem at the time of the offending.
