Bryan Kennedy was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, with the final six months suspended, at the Central Criminal Court on 17 April 2023 for soliciting a man to kill two women.

Ms Justice Caroline Biggs said Kennedy must engage during the suspended six months with all training and educational courses, and emotional and mental support facilities, recommended by the Probation Service.

Kennedy paid €8,000 to the would-be assassin and provided personal details of the two women.

The judge said his later decision to withdraw from the plan was not because he no longer wanted the women killed, but because he doubted the man’s bona fides and began considering whether he could carry out the plan himself.

The judge said Kennedy had been threatened and intimidated by the man he sought to hire.
