Shane Farrelly and Aaron Farrelly were each sentenced to three years and six months for possession of knives after being seen carrying a sword near a primary school in Inchicore. The final 12 months of Shane’s sentence and the final 18 months of Aaron’s were suspended.
The court heard the incident took place on October 24, 2024, as children and parents were in the area near the school. CCTV showed the brothers and two other men moving in and out of camera view with a sword and axes. A third man, Jeffrey Crowley, had pleaded guilty to possessing an axe and had been sentenced earlier in the year; the fourth man was not identified.
Judge Pauline Codd said the incident’s occurrence in broad daylight near a school was aggravating and directed the brothers to be supervised by Probation Services after release.
