Brian McLaughlin resentenced for assault and false imprisonment
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Brian McLaughlin was resentenced to three years, with the balance suspended, by the Court of Appeal on 30 May 2016 for assaulting his partner and falsely imprisoning her. The offences happened at their home in Buncrana on 20 October 2013.
The court found his original custodial sentence unduly lenient, but considered that returning him to prison might not serve society’s interests. It noted his progress, engagement with doctors and probation services, and that he was drug-free.
The suspended period was subject to a strict good behaviour bond and no further contact with the injured party.
