Brian Grendon was given an 18-month sentence, suspended in full for three years on strict conditions, after pleading guilty to failing to remit income tax on cash found at his home. Dublin Circuit Criminal Court was told that €20,477 was owed to Revenue, including USC, PRSI, a late filing charge and interest. Judge Orla Crowe said the offence was at the lower end of the scale and did not warrant a custodial sentence.
A total of €27,725 was seized from Grendon's home in 2022. He denied that the money was proceeds of crime and said it came from selling cars. The prosecution said his guilty plea was accepted on the basis that the cash reflected income not declared for tax purposes. Gardaí said other cash found in the home belonged to Grendon's wife and was returned to her.
