Brandon Crosbie was sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 8 February 2024 to six years in prison for violent disorder. Judge Martin Nolan also imposed a concurrent four-year sentence for endangerment and disqualified him from driving for five years. The sentence was backdated to 10 October 2022, when Crosbie entered custody.

Crosbie pleaded guilty to violent disorder over an attack in Mountjoy Prison on 18 December 2018. He also pleaded guilty to charges arising from a Dublin car chase on 22 May 2022, including endangerment and dangerous driving. The proceedings were reported on 8 February 2024.

The report said the seven car-chase charges included unlawful use of a vehicle without its owner’s consent, two counts of intentionally or recklessly engaging in conduct creating a substantial risk of death, criminal damage, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

CCTV shown in court depicted six prisoners, including Crosbie, attacking a man who was kicked, punched and stamped on and left unconscious. The court heard that another participant had a knife, but Crosbie did not know about it or that it would be used. He accepted his involvement and faced a prison disciplinary hearing.

Garda Wayne O’Brien described a pursuit in which Crosbie drove through red lights and a toll barrier and reached 160km/h. Defence counsel Aoife O’Leary said nobody was hurt and no other vehicles were damaged or struck. She said Crosbie had struggled with addiction and tablet abuse and was willing to engage with services to address his drug addiction.

The court heard that Crosbie cooperated with gardaí after his arrest. The report said he had 118 previous convictions.
