Brandon Abrahams was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for his role in an organised crime money-laundering operation that benefited from a €500,000 An Post smishing scam. The judge said he was an “important actor” who helped the organisation achieve its aims through deceit and money laundering.

Abrahams pleaded guilty to participating in a criminal organisation and nine further offences, including money laundering and possessing proceeds of crime and a false instrument. Investigators found a laptop at his home containing thousands of spreadsheet pages with personal debit-card information. He had used sophisticated fake driving licences and utility bills to open accounts under different aliases, and sold such documents to other fraudsters.

The judge imposed the seven-and-a-half-year term without suspending any part of it and backdated it to Abrahams’s entry into custody in September 2024. The court heard that €147,230 passed through his accounts during the relevant period.
