Brandon Abrahams has been jailed for 7½ years for his role in an organised crime money-laundering operation that benefited from a €500,000 An Post smishing scam. Dublin Circuit Criminal Court backdated the sentence to his custody in September 2024.

At sentencing, the judge described Abrahams as an important actor who benefited financially and helped the organisation achieve its aims through deceit and money laundering. He had pleaded guilty to 10 offences, including participating in a criminal organisation, money laundering and possessing false instruments. The offending took place between 2022 and 2024.

The court heard that about €500,000 was stolen from around 30 accounts in the smishing scam, benefiting about 50 criminals. A laptop found during a 2024 search of Abrahams’ home contained thousands of spreadsheet pages with personal debit-card details. The judge said there was no basis to suspend any part of the sentence.
