This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Boy A and Boy B each pleaded not guilty to murdering 14-year-old Kildare schoolgirl Anastasia Kriegel at Glenwood House, Laraghcon, Clonee Road, Lucan, on 14 May 2018. Boy A also pleaded not guilty to aggravated sexual assault involving serious violence. The proceedings at the Central Criminal Court were reported on 29 May 2019.
Detective Garda Donal Daly said gardaí found a copybook in Boy B’s home during a search on 24 May 2018. It contained a drawing of a satanic pledge, pentagrams, a list including the boys’ names and rules referring to Satan.
Daly said Boy B explained the notebook during a garda interview on 7 July 2018. Boy B said it referred to a homework club, which he called a “satanist” club because he did not want certain people to join. He said the rules were not meant to be serious.
Under cross-examination by Damien Colgan SC for Boy B, Daly denied that gardaí were disingenuous during the interviews. He accepted that air conditioning had stopped working and Boy B’s mother had complained of the heat. Colgan said Boy B was uncomfortable and had been prevented from speaking to his solicitor; Daly denied this and said a break was taken about ten minutes later.
Inspector Damien Gannon said he arrested Boy B on 12 July 2018. The trial was continuing before Justice Paul McDermott and a jury.
