Boy B pleads not guilty to Ana Kriégel murder

By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Boy B pleaded not guilty to the murder of 14-year-old Ana Kriégel. Boy A pleaded not guilty to her murder and sexual assault involving serious violence. The proceedings were reported on 21 May 2019.

The charges concerned events alleged to have taken place on 14 May 2018 at Glenwood House, Laraghcon, Clonee Road, Lucan, Dublin. The prosecution alleged that Boy B lured Ana from her home on the pretence of meeting Boy A, who then sexually assaulted and murdered her as Boy B watched.

The jury was watching recordings of interviews with Boy B conducted on 24 May 2018, a week after Ana’s body was found in an abandoned farmhouse in Lucan. Boy B told gardaí that Ana was unpopular and that he was no longer friends with Boy A after “what happened”. He said Boy A had asked him to call for Ana and claimed Boy A had lied to gardaí about it.

Mr Justice Paul McDermott told the jury that the prosecution could use Boy B’s interview evidence only against Boy B, and could not rely on it in its case against Boy A. The report said the trial would continue on Wednesday before the judge and a jury.
