A sentence hearing was told that Boy A had accepted causing Ana Kriegel’s death after being convicted of her murder. The proceedings were reported on 29 October 2019.
Detective Inspector Mark O'Neill said Boy A’s acceptance followed reports by psychiatrists and psychologists. He agreed that Boy A had described a headlock, a choke hold, kicking, hitting Ana with a stick and using a block which he either threw at her or hit off her head three times.
Boy A maintained that he did not sexually assault Ana and put forward an alternative explanation for the forensic evidence, the inspector said. The trial heard that Boy A’s semen was found on Ana’s top and that there was evidence she had been sexually assaulted. He had also been convicted of her aggravated sexual assault in a manner involving serious violence.
Boy A and Boy B were 13 when they murdered Ana in an abandoned house in Lucan on 14 May 2018. They were convicted by unanimous jury verdicts in 2019. The sentence hearing was continuing before Justice Paul McDermott at the Central Criminal Court.
