Bijan Afshar was found not guilty by reason of insanity of murdering his mother at the Central Criminal Court, reported on 27 May 2016. He was accused of killing Lynn Cassidy at her home in Deepdales, Bray, Co Wicklow, on 26 or 27 June 2014.

The jury returned a unanimous verdict after less than an hour of deliberation. Afshar was committed to the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum, where an approved medical officer was to examine him and report to the court on his condition and treatment.
