Barry McGee was ordered to notify his probation officer if he planned to leave Ireland during the remaining period of his post-release supervision. The proceedings were reported on 26 April 2021.
In 2003, McGee, of Foxfield Grove, Raheny, Dublin, was sentenced to 17 years in prison for raping two Australian women. On 5 May 2002, he armed himself with a knife and subjected the women to four hours of rape, torture and terror in their Dublin home.
Following his release in 2013, McGee went to Poland to visit a former cellmate. The report said he also went on holiday to Portugal two years later.
On 26 April 2021, his probation officer asked the court to require at least two weeks’ notice if McGee planned to leave Ireland during the remaining two and a half years of supervision. His barrister argued that the condition was disproportionate and unnecessary. Mr J Paul McDermott disagreed, saying it was in the interests of McGee’s continued rehabilitation and public protection given the seriousness of the crimes.
