Arnis Labunskis jailed for murdering Limerick flatmate

By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Arnis Labunskis was convicted of murdering his flatmate and sentenced to life imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court on 17 February 2017. The jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict after two hours and one minute of deliberations. The killing took place at the men’s home in Limerick.

Labunskis had pleaded not guilty to murdering Dainius Burba, who suffered fatal blunt-force injuries after being struck with a coffee-table leg. He had told the jury that he acted in self-defence, but the jury rejected that account by finding him guilty of murder.

The judge sentenced Labunskis to life imprisonment, and he was taken away to begin the sentence.
