Aoife Molloy’s sentence for her part in an assault on a Luas passenger was changed on appeal to four years, with the final two years suspended.

Judge James O'Donohue had sentenced Molloy, 24, to four years in January, suspending the final 18 months. Her co-accused Martin O'Connor, 25, received four years from the same judge, with the final two years suspended.

The assault took place on an outbound Luas red line tram between the Smithfield and Museum stops on 11 December 2014. The report said Noel O’Rourke, 46, fell when the tram jolted and Molloy kicked him as he tried to get up.

Molloy and O'Connor claimed they “snapped” when the victim then “retaliated”. Mr O’Rourke suffered a fractured eye socket and wounds to his scalp and lip.

The court heard about Molloy’s revised sentence on 4 November 2016. The proceedings were reported on 4 November 2016.
