Anthony McKeever jailed for possessing crime proceeds

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Anthony McKeever was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on July 20, 2022 for five counts of possessing the proceeds of crime. He pleaded guilty to the charges, which concerned his home on dates between March 21, 2004 and July 26, 2020.

Judge Martin Nolan passed sentence. The court heard McKeever had been courteous and cooperative with gardaí and had saved garda and CAB resources by pleading guilty. His counsel said he suffered from long Covid and a suppressed immune system, while the judge said he undoubtedly deserved prison despite the condition making custody more difficult.

The report said searches recovered €74,000 in cash, including more than €40,000 concealed in a kitchen extractor fan, along with an Audi Q7 and luxury goods. Sgt McGrath agreed with the defence that McKeever was not particularly sophisticated, because his accounts were in his own name and he was not trying to hide them. The proceedings were reported on July 25, 2022.
