Anthony Daly’s appeal against a three-year sentence for cannabis possession was dismissed by the Court of Appeal, reported on 18 January 2016.
Daly had been convicted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 11 December 2014 of possessing cannabis resin for sale or supply.
The offence involved drugs valued at about €3,000 found at an address in Santry, Dublin, after gardaí searched the property.
He was sentenced on 10 June 2015, and argued that the term was excessive because of mitigating factors including his good behaviour and family circumstances.
The Court of Appeal found no sentencing error and held that the three-year term was not excessive given his serious previous drugs conviction and the suspended sentence period.
